“Cum Grano Salis”
a boutique-B&B run by Flemings, is situated in a magnificent historical ‘Casa Colonica’ (farmhouse) dating back to 1882.
The house with lush garden and outdoor pool sits on the slope of a small hill at the edge of the ancient village of Castello delle Forme, which is part of the commune of Marsciano in Umbria, the green heart of Italy. Both from the guest rooms and the garden, you have a marvelous view of the Tiber-valley and the surrounding towns and villages, among which Deruta, one of the most important ceramics production centres in Italy.

Castello delle Forme
... is an ancient village, the earliest remains of which go back to the Etruscan era (about 5th century B.C.). The ‘castello’ (castle) definitely already existed in 1163 and its strategic position on a hill (269 m) above the Tiber-valley enabled control of the trade-routes between Perugia and Rome. It served as the meeting point for the ‘mulattieri’ (mule-drivers) before they joined the road to Rome. Castello delle Forme played an important role during Renaissance (1545), more specifically in the Salt-War between Pope Paul III (Alessandro Farnese) and the city of Perugia. The noble family ‘Della Corgna’, owner of the castle, chose the side of the Pope against Perugia. When the Pope eventually won the war, the village was rewarded by the abolishment of taxes for a period of at least fifteen years.
Cum Grano Salis is situated right in the centre of Umbria, only a few kilometers from the E45 highway (superstrada) which connects Perugia with Terni, Orte and the A1.
